Vernatsch Cup 2010
Seven years ago, the South Tyrolean Vernatsch Cup was called into being in order to promote this qualitative and convivial wine. Ulrich Ladurner, owner of vigilius, is a declared Vernatsch fan and came up with the initial idea. The unique atmosphere at vigilius offers the perfect setting for this often underappreciated wine.
During the course of a multi-staged selection process, an international jury consisting of
Enologists, Sommeliers and expert journalists from Italy, Germany and Switzerland chose the “Vernatsch of the Year”. Aged wines and wines of pronouncedly uncommon taste were savoured under the category “The Other Vernatch”.

The climax of the Vernatsch Cup was the award ceremony for the “Vernatsch of the Year” and the subsequent Vernatsch gala dinner. International, Italian and South Tyrolean delicacies were served to the awarded wines offering exquisite blends of harmony. In the words of Othmar Kiem, organizer of the Vernatsch Cup, “The Vernatsch is a traditional wine that has again become modern. It satisfies one with its lightness and fruit.”
