14th Vernatsch Cup
15.05.2017 - 16.05.2017
Vernatsch does not conform, generally speaking, to a „big wine”. It does not have the concentration of award-winning red wines, nor the structure or the body. Still, it is something special. Vernatsch is fruity, smooth, mild in acid and tannins, it offers an immediate drinking enjoyment and simply is fun. Above all, Vernatsch relates to South Tyrol, its people and the unique landscape.
Ulrich Ladurner, Othmar Kiem and Günther Hölzl established the South Tyrolean Vernatsch Cup in 2004 in order to foster the qualitative Vernatsch. The unique atmosphere of the vigilius mountain resort, international Design Hotel, offers the ideal stage for this authentic and typical South Tyrolean wine.
The time has come: a group of journalists, oenologists and wine appreciators tasted the Vernatsch wines of last year and made their evaluation. The wines with the highest rating received the title “Vernatsch of the Year”. Thus far, 5-10 wines per year won this award.
The Highlight of the event was the Walking Dinner on Tuesday. It was a great evening, starting at 7pm with aperitif in our piazza, where the awarding of the winning wines took place. In the restaurant 1500, our chef Matteo Contiero presented a series of selected creations accompanied by the award-winning wines.
