via vigilius

based on a concept by Ulrich Ladurner

6,970 m altitude difference uphill
7,090 m altitude difference downhill
109.2 km length of the trail
8 days time needed

The long distance trail was opened on the 28th May 2016. The Initiator of via vigilius and owner of the vigilius mountain resort, Ulrich Ladurner, wanted to create a long-distance hiking trail, which follows the footsteps of Bishop Vigilius from the Vigiljoch to Trento.

The via vigilius is a long distance hiking trail commencing at the mountain station of the tram to the Vigiljoch and concluding in the village of Vela, just outside the town of Trento. The trail can be segmented and experienced in eight separate stages. These single stages of the Via Vigilius can be hiked as day tours. Good public transportation, such as scheduled bus routes and trains, make it easy to reach the starting point of the single stages, and also facilitates re-entry. However, it is a very special and worthy experience to hike the entire trail in seven or eight days.
