Eco not ego.
There is no road up to Monte San Vigilio/Vigiljoch.
The cable car is the only way to get from Lana up to 1 500 m above sea level in seven minutes and arrive at a place full of energy where nature is still allowed to live in harmony with itself. Designing a mountain hotel in South Tyrol up Monte San Vigilio/Vigiljoch demands great care and respect. The architect Matteo Thun solved this great challenge based on the clear principle of “eco not ego”: The 5-star vigilius mountain resort hotel in South Tyrol was supposed to become a refuge where nature and not man is understood as the “creator”. Wood and large expanses of glass are the construction elements of this first A-class ClimateHouse hotel in Italy, where exterior and interior merge successfully. A pleasant symbiosis of modern design and comfort.
Wellness at 1500 meters
Sparkling mineral water bubbles out of the Monte San Vigilio/Vigiljoch mountain springs.
At the vigilius mountain resort, this crystal clear natural treasure flows through all the pipes: in the infinity pool you swim in the purest mineral water and you also exclusively enjoy the precious water from Bärenbad in the whirlpool, in the shower, while brushing your teeth and of course simply for drinking.
Monte San Vigilio/Vigiljoch has plenty of stories to tell. One of them is about the secret events that took place hundreds of thousands of years ago, deep inside the mountain. The ancient rock enriched the purest water generously with minerals. People recognised the value of this water containing radon early on and built pipes which carried the precious liquid directly down to the valley where it was, and is, bottled and used for cures. “Meraner Mineralwasser” is one of the most popular mineral waters in Merano, its surrounding area and beyond. A natural asset from Monte San Vigilio/Vigiljoch, which our guests at vigilius mountain resort get directly from the tap.
According to anecdotes, the Monte San Vigilio/Vigiljoch spring water even came into action during drinking sessions at the time of the San Vigilio/Vigiljoch South Tyrol mountain hotel. Once the landlord had emptied all the wine bottles, he generously poured the clear water from Bärenbad into schnapps glasses.
